RESULTS: English Premier League 12/26-12/27
At the very least this was an exciting mid-week of English Premier League. Favorites continue to struggle, but not quite as much as I’d like. Some close losses and dissapointing draws leave us near where we started. Let's delve into the recent matches, our predictions, and the actual results.
Manchester City 1-1 Everton
Pick: Everton Moneyline (ML) at +670
Result: Loss
Manchester City continued their winless streak with a 1-1 draw against Everton at the Etihad Stadium. Erling Haaland missed a crucial penalty, which could have secured a victory for City. Everton capitalized on their resilience, with Iliman Ndiaye scoring the equalizer.
Chelsea 1-2 Fulham
Pick: Fulham Moneyline (ML) at +470
Result: Win
In a thrilling encounter at Stamford Bridge, Fulham secured a 2-1 victory over Chelsea. Rodrigo Muniz scored a last-minute winner, sealing the win for Fulham. Chelsea's struggles were evident as they failed to capitalize on their chances, allowing Fulham to come from behind and clinch a memorable win.
Tottenham Hotspur 0-1 Nottingham Forest
Pick: Tottenham Moneyline (ML) at +176
Result: Loss
Nottingham Forest stunned Tottenham Hotspur with a 1-0 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. A late goal from Taiwo Awoniyi secured the win for Forest, showcasing their defensive resilience and ability to capitalize on counter-attacks.
Brighton & Hove Albion 0-0 Brentford
Pick: Brentford Moneyline (ML) at +330
Result: Loss
At the Amex Stadium, Brighton and Brentford played out a goalless draw. Both teams had opportunities to break the deadlock, but solid defensive performances ensured the match ended without goals.
Ipswich Town 0-1 Arsenal
Pick: Ipswich Town Moneyline (ML) at +1900
Result: Loss
Arsenal climbed to second place in the Premier League with a 1-0 victory over Ipswich Town. Kai Havertz scored the decisive goal in the first half, assisted by Leandro Trossard. Despite lacking creativity without injured Bukayo Saka, Arsenal dominated the game. Ipswich exerted pressure for a brief period in the second half but failed to score.
Final Takeaways
The recent fixtures highlighted the unpredictable nature of the Premier League. Fulham's victory over Chelsea was a standout result, emphasizing the potential for underdog successes. While not all our picks were successful, the dynamic nature of football ensures that each match offers new opportunities for analysis and insight. After not listening to our model and watching Wolverhampton clear Manchester United, we went back and added on the ones we left out, only to suffer some crushing defeats. The Brentford match showed a draw, but they had an early goal that was deemed offsides after VAR review that had me jumping out of my chair at work. Hopefully Serie A will treat us well as the Fulham comeback was huge for our survival this week, but we still need a strong performance to bounce back.
Stay tuned as we continue to provide in-depth coverage and predictions for upcoming Premier League and Serie A matches.
